This book really captures your heart; the author takes you on a journey through the protagonist's early years in Ecuador telling endearing stories of growing up there. Letting you in on the very oral traditions that she holds so dear and misses terribly when she is brought to America by her parents to better their lives. Unfortunately, this is not necessarily the case. A very "conditionally" loving mother that mis-treats her daughter in the worst kind of ways adds raw emotion to this story. The author's descriptions are so vivid that you really feel like you are standing in front of a window in Greece feeling the warm breeze brushing against your face!! There is adventure, love, hatred, tragedy, terror, romance, lots of laughter, mystery and much more. Ms. Culqui's first novel is a very enjoyable journey empowering us to see that even if we are hitting rock bottom we can reach deep within and find our Power of Being (and we all have it) picking ourselves up and realizing our passion and follow our dreams. I highly recommend this book. It is an awesome ride with a great underlying message of hope and empowerment. Read how following one's bliss is as essential as the air we breath.
